My advice would be to make some copies of your layers and play around with them, see what you like. Next Tuesdays video will be about how to make/save custom brushes so st. You can draw in the color you want the shading to be, or you could switch the layer type to something like Darken or Multiply to get a different effect. You could make a new layer and draw your shading on that, using the regular brush (if you want more of a clean line for shading) or the watercolor brush (if you want it more blended). You could click on "protect alpha" on the layer your flat color is on, and then draw the shading straight onto the color. So for shading specifically, it depends on what you're going for. And obviously there's all sorts of different styles in between. This is also part of my University Volunteerism project. Like rather than having an "outline" layer, the outline for hair and the outline for a character's body and the outline for things in the background are even separate layers. I know some people who like to draw everything on one later (though maybe they have a rough draft later). It really depends on what ends up feeling natural to you.
